Shreveport Homeschool Sports is a member of The Association of Christian Educators of Louisiana (ACEL.) As such, all of our teams {both JV and Varsity) must adhere to ACEL rules. Assuring player eligibility of homeschool student-athletes is the most critical and difficult aspects of maintaining our ACEL affiliation.
Parents, please read the ACEL requirements below for a homeschool student-athlete and then certify that your athlete’s homeschool meets all the ACEL requirements.
From section 2.6 of the official ACEL rules (available at theacel.com)
“… For the purposes of participation on an ACEL home education athletic association team, a homeschool student-athlete must spend 51 % of their class time in the home setting, unless the student-athlete is a graduating senior, in which case he or she may spend up to 66% of their class time outside the home setting. Any student taking classes through a state approved public school, virtual school, charter school, or any blending of such that will result in the student receiving a diploma from such school, does not meet the definition of a ACEL homeschooled student.”
Please understand that ACEL does NOT consider programs such as K12 a homeschool; therefore, athletes utilizing these types of programs are ineligible for ACEL participation and cannot be part of FORCE High School Volleyball.
If a member school or association uses an ineligible player, according to ACEL rule 14.2.1,
“…the use of an ineligible player will result in the forfeiture with assessment of forfeiture fees at the Sports Commissioner/ Executive Board’s discretion of any or all games in which that player participates.” The ACEL forfeiture fee is $500.
The ACEL also requires that
“…all participating schools or associations must require each ACEL student-athlete to take one Bible course for credit each academic year.”
