ACEL 2017 State Track Meet

This weekend the Shreveport Homeschool Sports Track & Field team took 8 athletes, who qualified in the ACEL North regionals, down to compete in the 2017 ACEL State Track and Field meet.  What a GREAT day of competition!  Our Shreveport Force athlete competed with such heart.

Shreveport Force Girls Track Awards
(r) Railey Berney and (l) Sophia Lorincz

Force Girls

We had three female athletes compete at state.  Sophia Lorincz, our star sprinter, ran and won the 100m and 200m sprints and placed a VERY close second in the 400m.  Railey Berney, who has been tearing up all that tracks we’ve competed on this year, ran the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m and easily won each while setting a new ACEL state record in the 1600m.  Jadee brown ran a
GREAT 800m and fought through some pain in the 3200m to a third place finish!  Not only did our three girls place 3rd in the girls team standings out of 9 teams, but Sophia received the Outstanding Female Track Award and Railey received the Overall Outstanding Female Athlete award!

Force Boys

The force boys ran tough…ran hard.  Mile Roberson competed in the long jump, ran the 100m, 200m, 400m, and first leg of our 4x400m relay!  Sam and Eli Wolfe ran the 800m with Sam placing fourth! Sam also, threw the discus.  In the 1600m and 3200m, we had to competitors as well; Landry Clark and Ethan Wilkes, who placed first and second respectively.  Landry, set new ACEL state records in the 1600m(5:05) and the 3200m. The Shreveport Force boys 1600m relay team, consisting of Miles Roberson, Ethan Wilkes, Sam Wolfe, and Landry Clark, placed third.

It was a long day of competition but I left there a SUPER proud coach.  ALL of our Shreveport Force athletes gave 110%, competed with class, integrity, and represented Shreveport Homeschool sports and most importantly Jesus very well!  As I said, I left there prouder than these typed words let on, but I also

left with a desire to do better!  How can we do that?  I have no doubt our current athletes will continue to train, grow, and get better, but we need MORE athletes!  The Shreveport Force Track team needs to be able to field relay team, hurdlers, etc.  Help us get the word out:  The Shreveport Force track team is the real deal!  We are looking to make a name for ourselves on the track and in the field!

2017 ACEL STATE CHAMPS

The Shreveport Force Varsity Basketball team did it! They capped off a perfect season last Friday Night with a victory in the ACEL State Championship game vs Lighthouse Christian Preparatory.

To reach the championship game Saturday, the Shreveport Force Basketball team took care of business Friday night by beating the other team in the ACEL with a perfect record, the Faith Training Patriots. Faith Training and the Force played in last season’s championship game with Faith Training getting the better of the Force. Not this year, the Force would get revenge and would not be denied another shot at bringing home the title as they knocked off a great team 57-52.

Saturday’s championship game had everything you needed for a great championship. Two evenly matched teams, featuring the #1 and #2 ranked teams, it also featured 4 first team all-state players, and a handful of all division players and two teams who were denied a chance at a championship the year before. The game went back and forth, Shreveport’s biggest lead was 10 in the first half. But Lighthouse rallied back in the 3rd quarter to take a 5 point lead heading into the 4th quarter.

The Force remained calm and poised down the stretch knocking down some key shots and getting some big stops on the defensive end to earn the victory.

Of those big shots were key 3’s by Aaron Alexander, Cameron Shaw, and a 3 when the Force was down 2 points, 60-62, to gain and keep the lead with 40 sec remaining by Drew Merrow. On the next possession the Force defense held strong and created a turnover with 8 secs to go. Up 1 with the ball, senior and leader Cade Shaw asked for the ball. Cade was fouled and calmly stepped to the line and sunk 2 free throws, who finished 22-29 from the FT line, to give the Force a 3 point lead 65-62. The next possession the Force defensive held strong once again limiting a clear look at the basket for the Lighthouse Eagles, forcing them to throw up a desperation 3 that was no good as the clock ran out.

With the victory, the Force put a bow on what was a special season. The Force finished 21-0 in league play, beating all 3 division winners and all 12 of the teams that made the playoff this year. Not only did the Force win, but beat the best to do it!

2016-2017 has been a special season for the Shreveport Force. The goal in the beginning was: redemption. To be so close last year and fall short was heart-breaking all they wanted was another shot!  They got it!  So, as the book closes on this season redemption has been earned and the Shreveport Force Varsity Basketball Team are the CHAMPS!
